It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Nadia Veronika Snajdr, age 76, on December 16, 2020 at HSN in Sudbury. Loving daughter of the late Ignacius Soltys and Frantiska Darebnik and wife of the late Peter Snajdr. Survived by children Patrik and Natalia Snajdr and spouse and partner Robert Muraska. Brother Vladimir Soltys survives in Slovakia.
Nadia was born in the town of Skalica, Czechoslovakia on October 19, 1944. A farming and vintner family, it left schooling as her only escape. In 1968 she obtained a Master of Science in Geology and Chemistry from Comenius University in Bratislava.
The Soviet Union repression that occurred in Czechoslovakia after the “Prague Spring” in 1968 was a concern to Nadia and her in-laws, so in 1969 they managed to flee via Tunisia and France and eventually obtain entry into Canada. Toronto, then Sudbury, became home where she worked and raised her two children.
Nadia had a fondness for the outdoors and gardening. Her backyard was a miniature horticultural parkland. Cooking and sewing were her passion. She enjoyed spirited conversation on just about any subject and was quick to deflate bloated egos. As a free spirit, she was resilient and feisty but caring and compassionate.
Nadia will be missed by those fortunate to cross her path. Her garden chickadees mourn her. She will always be cherished. Rest in Peace, Nadia.
At the family’s request, there will be no funeral visitation or service. Cremation. At a later date, there will be a celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Snajdr Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home. For donations and messages of condolence, www.lougheed.org.
