Mildred Wener 2020

Mildred Wener
(née Kovish)
Peacefully, on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the age of one hundred. Beloved wife of the late Hy Wener. Adored mother and mother-in-law of Brian and Rose. Cherished Bubby of Joel Wener and Jennifer Biberkraut, David Wener and Johnie Ting. Loving “Bubby Millie” to Jadyn and Justin Wener. Devoted daughter of the late Bessie and the late Sam Kovish. Predeceased by her siblings Harry and Al Kovish.
Millie was born in Lipton, Saskatchewan. Her family moved to Vancouver where she worked in her parents’ grocery store and later worked at Boeing Aircraft during WWll. She met Hy, who at that time, was stationed in Vancouver. They married in Montreal in 1946 and were happily married for sixty years.
Millie was a very proud lady, who never went anywhere without dressing ‘to the 9s’. Her fabulous ‘cheesecakes’ were known to all family and friends. Millie was always a dedicated worker and was employed as a bookkeeper until she was seventy years old.
Other than spending time with her immediate family and friends, going to their trailer in Vermont was the highlight of Millie’s yearly summer adventures. Her many trips to Vancouver and visiting her family, was always very precious to her.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Hazel Knight, and the caregivers of Residence Legault, where Millie received only love, kindness and compassion for 10 years.
Many thanks as well to the dedicated staff of 3 North at the Lakeshore General Hospital, for their extraordinary care and assurance that Millie’s last days were spent with dignity. Private graveside service.
Contributions in Millie’s memory may be made to the Quebec Federation of Alzheimer Societies (514) 369-7891.
