On January 30, 2020, Michael Joseph Kobewka passed away at the age of 94 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Len (Fern), Sid (Marge) and Joyce; as well as 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of his life. He was predeceased by his dearly loved wife, Verna Madge, son Ken, and son-in-law Bruce.
Mike was born in Drumheller, Alberta, the oldest in a family of 4 boys. As a young boy, he began his working life in the coal mines of the Drumheller valley. He was an inveterate entrepreneur, always investigating new opportunities for business. His work ethic was honesty, integrity and hard work. He retired from his successful business of project management and environmental work in the oilfield sites of Swan Hills, House Mountain and throughout Alberta.
A veteran of WW II, Mike met and married the love of his life, Verna Madge, when he returned from service. Together they shared the joy of their family and common interests of golf, horses, and travel with friends. Family memories were made during camping and fishing trips in the wilderness, and happy family gatherings where Mike and Verna’s homemade perogies and cabbage rolls were enjoyed by all.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Kipnes Centre for Veterans for their excellent care during Mike’s time as a resident.
A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.
Memorial donations in honour of Mike may be made to the charity of your choice.
