It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Melissa (Lisa) Ann Gibson (Lahey) 57, on November 25, 2020. Lisa was surrounded by her family during her peaceful passing.
Lisa was born on January 15, 1963 in Dartmouth, to the late Reg and Trudy (Miller) Lahey. Lisa talked fondly of growing up in L’Ardoise and spending time with her family as a child. She loved visits to Point Michaud Beach, the St. Peter’s Marina (a proud member of the St. Peter’s Lions Club for more than 25 years), bingo night, watching the birds from her living room window, and going for drives with Gerry. What Lisa cherished most was the time she got to spend with her family and friends, especially when everyone would have some food, play some cards, have a laugh together, and listen to the Zac Brown Band.
She was a fighter until the end, never wanting her Multiple Sclerosis to define her or how she lived her life. She often said that she was given the disease in place of someone else who could not carry the burden. This compassion for others and positive outlook is what guided her, a gift of inspiration which she gave selflessly to many. No matter how bad things were, Lisa found the silver lining and never let any obstacle pull her down.
Lisa is survived by her adoring husband of 38 years, Andrew (Gerry), her beloved daughters – her “pride and joy” – Nora (m. Ben), and Jessica (m. Brian);grandson Lucas – who always made her laugh, her siblings Debbie (m. Donnie), Rena, Reg (m. Glady’s), Shawn (m. Kathy) and best friend and “sister by choice” Alana (m. Glen), and in laws; Noreen (George), Marie (Dan), Danny (Lena), Billy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father and mother in law Earl and Mary and brother in law Georgie (Rena).
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Lisa’s palliative care team, CCW’s and the Nurses of Richmond County Continuing Care whose supports ensured that Lisa was able to rest at home until the end. They would also like to thank all the Nurses and Doctor’s at the Strait Richmond hospital for their years of dedication to Lisa’s care.
A private memorial is being arranged for a later date due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Lisa’s legacy, donations may be made to the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
