Obituary
JUNGWIRTH, MATTHEW JOSEPH
Matthew passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the age of 88. He was born on the family farm near Cudworth on September 20, 1932. He was the second in a family of 12 children born to Martin & Mary (Medernach) Jungwirth.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Isabel, and his children & grandchildren, Lorraine (Harold), Kristian & Hannah Mortensen; Robert (Michele), Jordan & Jessica Jungwirth; Joanne (Scot), Rebecca, Gabriel, & Coleman Lappa; Sandra (Daniel) & Evan Roberts; and Paul Jungwirth.
Matthew took his high school education at St. Peter’s College in Muenster, SK. He
later attended the Technical Institute in Moose Jaw, where he graduated as an
Electrical Journeyman. He worked as an electrician all his life. He was a Union member of Local #529 IBEW. He loved photography, gardening, hunting & fishing, and telling jokes to everyone he met. He was active in his church and community, a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteer at Sherbrook Nursing Home.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Tony, his sisters Elizabeth Carswell, Armella Weisensel, and Laura O’Rourke.
Prayers will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 23. Both services will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Family in Saskatoon (123 Nelson Rd) with Very Rev. Gerard Cooper as Celebrant. Live-streaming will be available for both services at: www.faithproductions.ca/livestream . The Rite of Committal will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honour to the Cathedral of the Holy family, Friendship Inn, or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
