Mary Lucilla Lee Hyde
October 30, 1940 – August 12, 2020
Passed peacefully away August 12, 2020 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, surrounded by love. She was predeceased by her husband John, and daughter Kelly. To share warm memories of her life, she leaves behind her children: Brenda (Clem), Eric (Bonnie), and Andrea (Jamie); grandchildren: Steven, Crystal (Matt), John (Steph), Brent, and Thomas; and great-grandson Owen; brothers and sisters: Tom (Bernadette), Alan (Anne), Theresa (Stephen), Patricia (Brian), and Rita (Doug). She will also be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, and many friends, as well as her adored cats, Sofie and Troy.
Mary was born and raised in Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay, and moved to St. John’s to work at the Waterford Hospital. She met John in 1960, and was married the following year. They made loving homes together through many adventures in Red Head Cove, Bonavista, Riverhead, and Conception Bay South, making so many dear friends along the way.
Mary loved her cats, her family, and her friends, sharing her humor, warmth, and positivity with everyone she met. She was very creative and enjoyed painting, singing, and practicing Tai Chi. She was genuine, determined, and fiercely independent. Her strength and grace when faced with life’s struggles was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Mary during her short stay at St. Clare’s, especially the staff of 6 West; your kind care and compassion will always be remembered.

Cremation has taken place, and a burial and celebration of life will be held for family and friends on August 22, 2020 at 12:30pm at St. Thomas of Villanova Cemetery in Conception Bay South.
