Mary Kennedy
1930-2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary
Florence Kennedy (O’Hagan) at Hotel-Dieu St. Joseph Hospital on
March 11th, 2020.
Born in Grand Falls, NB on December 25th, 1930, she was the daughter
of the late Aaron and Eva (Morrissey) O’Hagan. She was
predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Ronald Kennedy. Mary
leaves behind her sons Larry (Brenda), Randy (Katrena), Carter (Karen)
and Allison (Rhonda) Kennedy; her grandchildren Andrew (Lori), Matt,
Nicole (Kirk), Jill (Lachlan), Kelan (Billie Jo), Zoe (Ian), Brad
(Jordon), Carson (Samantha), Hilary (Kevin), Bryan and Sean (Rowan)
and 11 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her siblings
Harold O’Hagan, Avis Van Slack, Stella Toner, June Moodie,
Darrell O’Hagan and Roland O’Hagan.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by
her grandson, Jeran Kennedy and siblings Robert, James, Bertha
O’Hagan and Caroline Ricard.
After graduating from high school, Mary went on to become a school
teacher. She taught at schools in Lake Edward and Dover Hill. After
moving to Bairdsville on the family farm, Mary worked very hard at
raising her sons as well as caring for her in-laws and Aunt Etta. Mary
and Ronald were always known for their hard work ethic and passed this
value on to their sons and grandchildren. Throughout her life, Mary
was a long-time member of the CWL and the Women’s Institute of
Bairdsville.
In their later years, Ronald and Mary took on the art of quilting
together. Mary was also an amazing knitter. Her grandchildren have
fond memories of picking out a pair of knitted socks every Christmas
and they each have a handmade quilt made with love by their
grandparents.
Mary and Ronald loved to get together with their family at the log
cabin in Beaconsfield every Thanksgiving where Mary would provide a
full turkey dinner without any electricity. One of their favourite
activities was attending Auction 45 card games at different community
halls throughout Victoria County. Mary continued to play cards up
until her final days at the Victoria Villa.
The Kennedy family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the
staff of the Victoria Villa for Mary’s excellent care in her
last year of life.
Resting at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church with visitation on
Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 12-2 pm. Funeral service will be held on
Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 2 pm from the church. Father Gilbert
Doddatto celebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a
later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Making a Difference Food
Bank would be greatly appreciated by the family.
