Obituary for
Joan Craig
Mom passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 11, 2020 at Madonna Care Community, Ottawa.
Although she did not become infected, the isolation due to covid was hard on her and us.
She was born on March 19, 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario to parents Gertrude and Roy Snider joining her
sister Ruth. When the family moved to Ottawa, she attended Lisgar Collegiate where she met Bob, the
love of her life. They both attended MacDonald College where Mom graduated with a Bachelor of
Science (Home Economics). They were married in 1954 and settled into the house Dad grew up in. Mom
was sadly predeceased by Dad in 1993.
She was the devoted mother of Gary (Pauline) and David (Carissa). Her grandchildren Lindsay, Adam,
Jennifer and Matt were especially important to her and brought her great joy. She is also survived by her
dear sister Ruth Woodburn (Ralph deceased), her niece Julie Blanton (Mike deceased) and Mark
Woodburn (Cheryl) and their families in North Carolina.
After briefly working at the Civic Hospital she was a stay at home mother but was very active at Knox
Presbyterian Church and was a 40-year volunteer at CHEO. She enjoyed spending time with family at the cottage, reunions with her McDonald College classmates and games of cribbage and solitaire. She also enjoyed knitting and needlepoint.
The family would like to thank the PSWs and staff at Madonna for their care of Mom over the last 4
years.
Due to the current circumstances a celebration of her life will be held at Knox at a later date when we
can all be together.
Should you wish, a donation to Knox Presbyterian Church, or the charity of your choice in Mom’s memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.
