Mary’s Obituary
Mary Fedorchuk, beloved wife of the late Jack Fedorchuk passed away at the Norquay Health Centre on February 4, 2020, at the age of 95 years.
Mary was born August 27, 1924, in Buchach, Poland, to Anthony and Tillie (Struchynski) Zinkewich. In March 1932, Mary immigrated to Canada with her mother and sister, Annie. They settled north of Stenen, where they joined her father, Anthony, who had come to Canada five years prior. Mary recalled her father working hard and breaking land for minimal pay and no meals included. She remembered helping him load roots on a wagon – the kind of work people today could never imagine.
Mary and Annie attended school and helped with chores after school. They lived in a one room shack, worked hard, and spent winters cutting and hauling wood to Stenen.
On February 8, 1942, Mary married Jack Fedorchuk. In March of that year, Jack was called to the army and served the next two years guarding the West Coast. Discharged in 1944, Jack returned home, where he continued to farm and run the family store. Mary and Jack lived with Jack’s parents in the living quarters of the store. Together, they were blessed with three sons: Mervin, Gary and Jackie.
Mary’s strong work ethic stayed with her throughout her life and she enjoyed working as long as she was able. She also enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, quilting, singing and gardening. She spent many hours tending to her gardens and flowers.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace and her memory be eternal.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Tillie Zinkewich; husband, Jacob (Jack) Fedorchuk; son, Jackie and sister, Annie Semeschuk.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Mervin (Jeanie) and Gary (Shirley); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
In Mary’s honour, a Funeral Service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2020, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Petro Tsenov officiating. Interment followed at the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or to the Norquay Health Centre, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Mary Fedorchuk.
