Obituary for
Mary Elizabeth Waugh
It is with great sadness that the Waugh family announces the passing of Mary Elizabeth Waugh (Butler) on December 10, 2020, after a short hospital stay. She reached the admirable age of 81 and was predeceased by her husband, Peter and her parents, Margaret and Jack Butler.
She is survived by one sister, Jackie Cruickshank (John), and brother, David Butler (Carmel Ravanello). Mary was born on December 10, 1939, and raised in Windsor, ON. She attended J.L. Forster Secondary School and was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church. She joined the RCAF, where she met her husband, Peter, who was stationed in Ottawa. While in Ontario, they had two children, Ian and Sandy. In 1975, the family moved to Edmonton where they had their third son, Andrew (Selena).
Mary worked for Zellers in Meadowlark for a few years. She then went to work for Edmonton Public Schools as an Administrative Assistant at a variety of schools. She spent most of her career at Westlawn Junior High, including a few years on the substitute list after her retirement.
While raising three boys, she also found time to be a Guider and was a part of Girl Guides of Edmonton and Maywood Division. She spent many years involved with Guiding and formed many great friendships through her involvement with the organization. Mary’s greatest joy was her two grandchildren, Marco and Angelina. She often said that they were her “reason for living”. Mary also loved attending Dayspring Presbyterian Church and became an elder within the church community. She truly enjoyed the friendships she made there, as well as being involved in a variety of activities such as helping in the kitchen when she was able to. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Those wishing to pay their last respects to Mary, may do so on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton.
