Obituary
Martin Junior Clement, a long- time resident of Creston, B.C. passed away at Swan Valley Lodge on February 12, 2019.
Born in Lake Athabasca, Alberta, Martin Junior Clement moved to Kitchener, B.C. as a youth where he met his wife Margaret. Two years later they married. Now, after some 68 years of marriage, they are once again parted.
Martin was an avid hunter who later turned his skill and love of shooting to target practice. He helped create the gun range outside of Creston. He built guns and loaded shells with just the right shot for the weather and target distances. He became so proficient, he was on Team Canada for Bench Rest Shooters.
Martin was highly skilled at heavy equipment work. It was a passion for him. He worked as far away as Vancouver Island, the marina at Summerland, and the heavy equipment section on the building of the Duncan Dam. He laid the multiple pilings under the Ducks Unlimited Building and in other areas of Ducks Unlimited and on the Creston dykes. In fact, there are not many bridges and roads in the Kootenays, on highways, or in the bush, that he did not have a hand in making or building.
Along with his heavy equipment company, Martin’s last forty plus years were spent farming a successful orchard in Erickson with his wife, Margaret. Nothing put a bigger smile on his face than when a truckload of family showed up at apple picking time. He spent his evenings sitting outside on the deck in the shade contemplating life, the weather and his next project.
Martin’s presence will be sorely missed by his wife Margaret Fern Clement; and his daughters, Jo Laree Baber and Margaret L Clement. He also leaves to mourn grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and more family members through marriages of those children and grandchildren.
A private family life celebration will be planned at a later date. Rest easy Martin! We will miss you!
