Meehan, Martha Marlene
Known to those who she loved and who loved her as Mollie, left us far too soon on March 10, 2020. Born May 4, 1949 in the Township of Goulbourn, ON.
Daughter of the late Vincent and Appolonia. Survived by her sisters Aggie Massey (late Eldon), Phyllis Walters. Predeceased by her sister Patricia Watters (late Martin) and Shirley Kennedy (late Michael) and by her brother Lawrence (Laura Campbell) also predeceased by her nephew Vincent Watters. Mollie will be greatly missed by her longtime friend and constant companion Ron Hayes. Mollie will be missed by many nieces and nephews, especially Teresa Watters, Angie and Lindsay Massey, John and Lauren Massey and Jordan and Brayden Brownlee. She will be missed by her friends who became family at 31 McEwen Avenue, Ottawa.
Mollie loved people, old and young, animals big and small. She was entertaining, fun loving, at times outrageous, and when necessary, compassionate. She promoted goodwill, fellowship, she loved life and she practiced gratitude. She only married once, Hugh Meehan of Carp, and became a dairy farmers wife while working as a civil servant.
She joined the community of St. Michael’s and enjoyed the youth group. She had no children of her own but loved all children she met. After leaving her marriage, she went to school to become a counselor. She loved horses and spent her spare time working with Ron Hayes participating in fairs, shows and parades. She was a woman of many causes, supporting many politicians, especially those of her beloved conservative party and Empathy House of Ottawa. She earned many citations, most notably her City of Ottawa volunteer award. To the residents of 31 McEwen Avenue, she became their champion, their neighbor and friend, participating in many events, you truly were her friends and family.
After a number of bouts of pneumonia, her health deteriorated. She was admitted to the Queensway Carleton Hospital on March 10 and passed away quickly.
Our angel of many walks with us.
At Mollies request, services are to be private.
For those who wish, a donation to Empathy House of Recovery would be appreciated.
