Marion Isabel Newcombe
1931-2020
Marion Isabel Newcombe – It is with love and
gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our
mom, Marion, 89, of Windsor, formerly of Port Williams. She passed
away peacefully on December 7, 2020, at home. Born in Medford, Kings
County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Esther (Thornton)
Woolaver. Marion is survived by two daughters, Janet (Lloyd) Anderson,
Mt. Denson and Karen (John) Lewis, Fall River; son, Kevin (Brenda)
Newcombe, Falmouth; grandchildren, Laura Anderson, Lesley Anderson
(Michael Hamilton), Jenny Lewis (Aaron Hoyles), Ian Lewis (Lexi
Boudreau), Jordan Newcombe, Breagh Newcombe; one brother, Frank
(Marion) Woolaver, sisters-in-law, Alice Newcombe, Muriel (Jim) Axell;
brothers-in-law Allan Dean and Doug Brown; aunts, Abbie Woolaver and
Olive Varga; as well as many cousins nieces and nephews. In addition
to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Newcombe;
with whom she shared 48 happy years, infant twin children, Deborah and
Douglas, an infant daughter, Susan; her siblings, Phyllis, Helen,
Floyd and Louise; her in-laws, Isabelle (Ken) Parker and Robert
Newcombe. Marion shared a close friendship throughout her life with
the Anderson, Lewis and McCarron families as they became part of her
extended families. Marion graduated from Teachers College and was an
elementary school teacher. She was a lifetime member and Provincial
President of the Women’s Institute, a role she was proud and
passionate about. She served on the board of the Valley Regional
Hospital. She volunteered at the Port Williams Elementary School as
part of the Special Friend Program for many years. She was an active
volunteer in the community of Port Williams where she resided for 60
years. She was a member of Windsor United Church. Marion was a great
entertainer and welcomed her children’s friends in her
kitchen where her famous brown bread was served daily. If shopping was
an Olympic sport, Marion would have brought home a gold medal! She
supported all her grandchildren’s activities and was
fortunate to have attended all of their high school and university
graduations. We would like to thank the friends and relatives who sent
flowers, food and well wishes. We will be forever grateful for the
health care system who provided such valuable care. A funeral service
will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Willow
Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in memory may be made to Carey Me
(supporting palliative care in the home) 150 Exhibition Street,
Kentville, NS B4N 4H8 or to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
