Obituary of Maria Sophie Novak

NOVAK (Puzak), Maria Sophie – As He quietly whispered her name, Maria Sophie Novak was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord, our Creator and greeted at the gates of Heaven by her daughter Liza Marie. Maria passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospice with her husband Henry by her side. They had been blessed with 55 unforgettable years of marriage. She was most proud of her children, Liza Marie Novak who passed away at the tender age of 7 and Monica Christine Johnston. She was heartbroken to have outlived her youngest daughter. Born on January 26, 1945 in Tanganyika, Africa, she was the first child of Bazyl and Pauline Puzak. She later immigrated to Canada where she began her life’s journey. Maria treasured her Polish heritage, had a very strong faith and was happiest singing in the choir at church and dancing Polka’s with her husband. It was her love of music and dancing that later united her and dad together as one. This is how their love story began. She cared deeply about traditions and loved unconditionally. Maria will be deeply missed by her husband Henry whom she loved so much and her daughter Monica Johnston (Jeff). Proud Nana of her three grandchildren Mariah, Jack and Sarah. Sister of Stanley Puzak (Wendy), and Helen Fisher (Gerry). Survived by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, and cherished friends who she adored. Cremation has taken place. A private gathering of immediate family only will be received at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (519-344-3131). In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Maria’s memory are asked to consider Bluewater Health, Palliative Care or St. Joseph’s Hospice. Special thanks to Dr. Maddison and Dr. Crombeen, Nurse Cheryl and the Bluewater Health Palliative Team for the compassionate care they provided.
