With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lyle Bernard Cook on Nov 7, 2020.
Dad was born to Helen and Wilfred Cook on August 31, 1929. His parents raised dad and his brothers in and around Hastings Ontario. After the passing of his mother he left home looking for work and ended up in Winnipeg where he met his wife Olga and in time began working for the City of Winnipeg. For the first 13 years they lived in Winnipeg and then decided that Dugald would be a good place for dad to hang his hat (loved his hats) and raise their family. They shared 66 years of marriage, had 7 children, Belinda, Deborah/Nick, Adele/Fred, Barry/Donna, Alice/Jeff, Kirk/Sylvia, Susan, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The family was asked what word came to mind when thinking of dad. The words that came to mind were
strong, smile, family, witty, sarcastic, rascal, lovable, stubborn, one of a kind and yes he was all of that.
The last few years were difficult as dad had dementia. The times that he knew us he wasted no time using
his wit and sarcasm. Other times he would say that he hoped he was a good dad and we let him know
that we were blessed to have him.
Debbie was dad’s rock. She would be sure to have hats in her car in case his went missing. She would
visit and dad would tell her about this nice lady who brought him hats but cheap hats. Like all families we had our challenges but when asked it’s the good times that come to mind. As much as we will miss him we know he is in a better place with mom, Dale and his family.
We would like to thank dad’s special friend Mike for all the visits that dad enjoyed.
