Obituary for Lydia Choi Sheung Ing (nee Lee)
May 5, 1948 – December 15, 2019
Lydia Choi Sheung Ing was born on May 5th, 1948 in Tai Shan, China. She was the eldest of the 4 children of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Huai Fong. When she was 9, her family moved to Macau where they lived for 4 years until she was 13, when the family moved again and settled down in Hong Kong where she studied and found work doing various jobs to support her family.
In her twenties a good friend of hers, Mrs. Chan, invited her to a church event where the famous Billy Graham was speaking. It was through his sharing of the gospel that she came to know and accept Jesus Christ as her personal savior. Through some good friends, she met Mr. Chuck Hang Ing who she later became engaged to while in Hong Kong and eventually immigrated to Vancouver, BC where they married. Later on, she had 2 daughters, Angela and Sue, whom she loved and cared for and faithfully brought them to Christ Church of China for many years before she stopped attending the church community due to a back injury.
Lydia was gifted with her hands in doing various crafts such as crocheting and knitting various garments. Her specialty was sewing outfits for herself and her children. She was a quiet and private woman who kept much to herself. Yet she was kind, thoughtful, and caring, often thinking of others before herself. In 2019, Lydia’s daughter Sue passed away; yet God used this to open her heart to allow many friends old and new and extended family to connect and reconnect with her bringing much comfort to her. Eventually she went back to church to worship whenever possible.
In the last year, she had ongoing complicated health conditions which resulted her to be hospitalized multiple times, eventually moving into Windermere care home for more ongoing care and support. On December 15th of 2019, Lydia was admitted to the hospital once again where she later passed away surrounded by family and friends.
