Louis Levi Prince
Sydney Mines
It is with great sadness the family of Louis Prince announce his passing on Sunday, July 19, 2020, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Caroline Prince.
Poppa Louie was a proud and hardworking coal miner. He was employed with Devco for 46 years before his retirement. He was a kind and gentle soul and inspired his family to appreciate the little things in life. He loved his walks ’around the loop’ or to ‘Barrington’s Woods’, where he would pick mayflowers and blueberries for Fannie. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, and his drives to visit with family and friends.
Louie’s life-long love of music brought him endless joy. He loved to sing with the Trinity Anglican Church choir, spent countless hours making his tapes, and curating his music collection. He was self-taught and very talented on the harmonica. We will carry the memories of him playing and singing forever in our hearts.
Louie will be greatly missed by his granddaughter Sharon, great-granddaughter Kayla, brother John (Myrtle), and sister-in-law Theresa. He cherished his extended family, including his very special niece, Louise, whom he loved like a daughter.
Louie was predeceased by his wife Frances (Fannie), daughter Anita, son-in-law Joe, and grandson Billy. He was also predeceased by his parents Joseph and Caroline, and siblings Eliza, Annie, Agnes, Mary, Joseph, William and Albert.
Our family thanks Dr. Andrew Wawer, his staff, and the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home, for their years of care and compassion provided to our Poppa Louie.
There will be no visitation. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be a graveside service for family at St. Joseph Cemetery in Sydney Mines at a later date. Donations in Louie’s memory may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, or a charity of choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at
