It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom, Lola Haines MacAskill, January 14th at QE11 Hospital in Halifax. Lola was born September 9th 1928 in Grand River, NS to the late Daniel and Sarah MacAulay (Morrison). Lola was a member of the Grand River United Church and an active member of her community, always willing to lend a hand. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years John Angus MacAskill. Lola was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by brothers; Kenneth, John, Gilbert (Buddy) and sisters; Christie, Marjorie, Emma and Phelena in infancy. She is survived by sons, Alvin (Claire) Dartmouth, Dan (Brenda) Grand River. Daughter Dolores (Carl) Truro. Grandchildren; Matthew, Evan (Briana), Kirk, Shawnda (Gerry). Sister in law: Esther MacAulay. Many nieces and nephew. The family would like to thank the staff at Northwood Manor, Gottingen St 11th floor for their care and compassion while Lola was a resident. Lola enjoyed her daily activities with staff and residents, always up for a good laugh. A special thank you to QE11 Emergency for treating mom with the utmost dignity and professionalism. Visitation will be held on Monday January 20th in Grand River Presbyterian Church from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service with be held at the Grand River Presbyterian Church 11am Tuesday January 21st. Co- Celebrants Rev. Corey Stewart and Rev. Keith Wiseman officiating. Burial to follow in Grand River Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Grand River Fire Dept. or charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the Care and Direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St. Port Hawkesbury.
