Obituary
Dr. Charles Lindley ( Lin) passed away on April 17th, 2020 at the age of 84. Fondly remembered by his wife, Anne, sons, Stuart (Cathy) and Graeme (Andrea) , precious grandsons Alex and Sam and his canine companions, Velcro and Bunker. Lin will also be missed by his sister, Margaret, brother, John (Dianne) and many nieces and nephews.
Lin received his BSc and MSc degrees from UBC, and PhD from the University of Illinois. This was followed by post doctoral work in Switzerland before becoming part of the Faculty of Science in the newly established Simon Fraser University. Lin did genetic studies on an algae species and supervised many graduate and summer students. During his career, his passions were teaching genetics and counselling undergraduate students on possible career paths.
Lin retired from the university in 1994 to oversee the building of a unique home on a bluff overlooking the ocean at Qualicum Beach. In his new paradise, he rediscovered his interest in golf and played at least twice a week until his heath declined. Lin also pursued his interest in nature, developing a spectacular garden, centered around 165 different species of rhododendrons.
Due to the pandemic, no get- together will take place. In lieu, the family will be compiling a virtual Celebration of Life for Lin which will be made available (e-mailed) to family and friends.
