LeRoy Ryder 1952 2020

Obituary of LeRoy Ryder
It is with sadness that the family of LeRoy Milton Ryder announce his sudden passing on August 26, 2020 in his home in Saint John, NB. LeRoy was born on May 1, 1952 and was the son of the late Milton and Essie (Kierstead) Ryder in Sus, NB. He grew up on Coles Island and maintained his family home throughout his lifetime.
In his younger years, LeRoy held a variety of jobs as a Carpenter and Industrial Mechanic. Later, he was proud to become a School Bus Driver serving the Anglophone South School District. He said many times that, “it was the best job anywhere” and he was making preparations for the upcoming school year to be his last before retirement.
Although he enjoyed his work, his passion was his love for antique vehicles. One favorite amongst his collection was a 1965 Morris Oxford which had originally belonged to his father and was the vehicle on which he learned to drive. This beauty had been rescued from a backyard snowbank, in rough condition, but was autentically restored over the next several years.
Anyone knowing LeRoy would be able to attest to his ability to talk to anyone. Generally, the conversation revolved around antique vehicles and their specifications and particulars but the venue didn’t matter – McDonalds with the crew, a car show (anytime or anywhere) or a friend’s livingroom. LeRoy could “steer” a conversation all on his own.
LeRoy is survived by his three children: Terri Turrell (Chris) of Quispamsis, Kerri-Anne Ryder of Belleisle Creek, Craig Ryder of Hampton; grandchildren Joshua Ryder and Casie, Devan and Hayden Turrell; uncle Vernon Kierstead (Joan) of Federicton; aunt Florence Chown; special cousin Verna Mason-Dejeet (Alfred); close friends Kathy and Wade, along with several cousins.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, N.B. (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 4 to 7pm, with social distancing measures in place. A Celebration of LeRoy’s will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 3:00pm from Coles Island Cemetery.
Donations in LeRoy’s memory can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com
