Léonie Marie Melanson (Comeau)
December 22, 1929 – February 24, 2020
MELANSON (Comeau), Léonie Marie – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Nakile Home for Special Care and formerly of Church Point. Born December 22, 1929 in Little Brook to the late Alphée Comeau and Estelle Doucet. She is survived by a stepbrother, Herbert (Thérèse) and a stepsister, Diane (late Charles Hiltz). Also surviving are her children, Joël (Karen), Joanne (Bill Bourque) and Anice (Chris Franzen); grandchildren, Tammy, Jennifer (Pierre Robichaud), Michelle (Terry Peach) and Daniel Doucet (Terri Lynn); great grandchildren, Emma, Julia, Gordon, Sébastien, Lilly, Peyton, Aiden, Samuel and Amélie. Mom was predeceased by her husband, John; a daughter Giselle; stepmother, Agathe and a brother, Coral. Mom was a hard worker. She took pride in keeping her home immaculate, enjoyed digging for clams, picking blueberries and loved music. There were always lots of “goodies” in her kitchen and mom always welcomed everyone with open arms. Mom was a loving wife and mother who was blessed with good health until her diagnosis with dementia 12 years ago. Even though the disease took away her mobility and voice, mom was still “mom”. A special thank you to all the staff at Nakile for treating mom with the utmost respect and dignity for the past eight years. A thank you to everyone at Nakile for embracing us into your family. Special thanks to Dr. Loveridge, Dr. Julie Chandler and Dr. Lionel d’Entremont for seeing to mom’s medical needs. Cremation has taken place under the care of Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth where visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, with prayers at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 27 at Holy Family Church, Amirault’s Hill, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Church Point. It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Dialysis Unit of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Nakile Home for Special Care, Jackie Comeau & Friends Cancer Help Fund Association or the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society.
