Obituary of Leona Agnes Hayes
HAYES, Leona Agnes
The passing of Leona Agnes Hayes, of Tay Creek, wife of the late Louis Edward Hayes, occurred on June 17, 2020 at Hospice Fredericton. Born on January 11, 1929 in Royal Road, NB, she was the daughter of the late Mary Jane (Nealis) Currie and William Currie.
Leona was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In her younger years she taught school in Penniac and Cardigan. She loved fiddle music and dancing. After she got married, she moved to Tay Creek and raised her family and ran a household, looking after her father-in-law, brother-in-law, husband and 5 children and she helped everyday on the farm and taught 4-H. She never seemed to stop working.
Leona is survived by her daughter, Lynn McMinniman (John); sons, David Hayes (Debbie), Kerry Hayes (Brenda), Dana Hayes (Nancy) and Neil Hayes (Lisa); grandchildren, Brendan (Tara), Alicia (John), Jonathan (Sara), Kristy (TJ), Sarah (Warren), Adam, Corey, Peyton, Andrea (Nick), Lauren and Connor; great grandchildren, James, Sam, Dylan, Eve and Mason.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Neal Currie.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB, on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Fredericton, NB. Family suggests masks be worn to protect the health of others; due to the Covid-19 pandemic, her service is limited to 50 attendees, by invitation, on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11 am. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Tay Creek. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, remembrances made to the Hospice Fredericton, St. Joseph’s Cemetery or to a charity of one’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
