Ed will also be missed by his many friends at Northwood Retirement Centre and Sunrise Village, with whom he enjoyed many games of bowling, bingo, canasta, pool, and curling. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Maria Kliner; his wife of 50 years, Ruth Kliner; his daughter Marilyn Malmstrom; sister Lillian Lamb and sister-in-law Carol Kliner; granddaughter Desiree Kliner; and his partner of 15 years Kathe Taylor.
Ed was united in marriage at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, MB on April 15, 1950 to Ruth Claudia Kliner (nee Burron). Family was extremely important, and Ed and Ruth kept the connections with aunts, uncles, and cousins by visiting whenever possible. Ed and Ruth travelled extensively throughout Canada and the US – first with the pull trailer, then the truck camper and finally the motorhome. He also enjoyed when family would come visit, pulling up quietly in the night in their motorhomes to visit over breakfast on their way east or west.
Always a sportsman, he won many awards in: Senior Men’s hockey (CAHA Allan Cup winner of 1952); ON, SK and MB curling bonspiels; ON baseball; bowling; golf; and fishing. He was always ready for a good competition be it in sports, cards, bingo or whatever. Ed was a long-time employee with MANDO in Fort Frances, ON, as well as operating many service stations in ON, SK and MB. He remained an accountant until his retirement at age 80.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the many nurses and physicians of Kelowna General Hospital and Interior Health for their compassion and support.
A family graveside service will be held in the spring or early summer.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund of which Ed and Ruth were devoted members and very willing volunteers, www.firstlutheran.ca, Heart & Stroke Foundation, www.heartandstroke.ca , or Kidney Foundation of Canada, kidney.ca.
