Obituary
It is with deep sorrow we announce Ken passed away peacefully at his home August 10, 2020.
Loving husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather. Pre-deceased by his parents William and Nora Jean, his brother Fred and his beloved sons Kenneth, Jeffry and Montgomery.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Tiina, his daughters Dana, Kimberly, Tannyss and Kirsti; his sons Kerry, Clayton, Zachary, Joshua and Mika; his 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren along with his brother Rusty and sister Joan and many, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ken was “born on a rock point” in Pikwitonei Manitoba at a time when that was the end of the rail line in the middle of the bush. He learned the ways of the hunter and trapper in the north he so loved. Ken became “one of Canada’s hired killers” when he joined the PPCLI at age 17 and fought in Korea, discharged with the rank of Corporal. He came back to his northern home and went to work for the railway and began raising his growing family.
Life wasn’t easy during those years but Ken was determined to do better for his family so he went back to school through New Careers and launched his career as a civil servant. He worked all across the north with communities, and reserves through Northern Affairs and Manitoba Hydro. In his last years he was liaison working on land settlement claims with 5 reserves, the provincial government and Hydro.
Ken met Tiina in 1979 and their life together was filled with love and kindness and they started his second family. Ken was a wonderful father caring for the kids when Tiina went to school and began her next career. He was forever feeding everyone and making sure they had enough. The treat cupboard was always full. Ken was passionate about war history, the Toronto Maple Leafs and old country music. These passions live on in his family.
In lieu of a service there will be a gathering Sunday afternoon August 16th at our home in the garden he so loved. All friends and family are welcome to share in stories and laughter as we remember him.
