Obituary of KATHERINE ELAINE SULYMA
KATHERINE ELAINE SULYMA (NEE WINIARZ)
It is with deep sadness, that we mourn the passing of our beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Nana & Great Nana, Katherine Sulyma on December 14, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband Walter (2006), her parents Jan (1973) and Katie (1965), her brothers Frank, John, Walter, Stanley, Peter, Joseph, and sisters Stella, Janet, Agnes and Mary. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Cliff (Analyn), Sandra (Raymond), grandchildren Kathryn (Jeff), Derek, Khristine, great grandchildren Luke and Danella, and sister Adeline Babiak, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was born in Melrose, MB on November 20, 1930 and left for the city when she was 17. She met Walter in 1948 and after a 6-month romance, they were married on October 16, 1948. Together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage; raising a family and traveling in the winter to Hawaii and California, which were their favourite destinations.
Mom began her career as a waitress at the Town & Country Restaurant and the CharterHouse Restaurant in the 50’s and early 60’s. In the mid 60’s she enrolled in Hotel Management at Red River Community College and then worked at the Marion Hotel as Assistant Manager and then Hotel Manager until the mid 80’s. After a short retirement, she returned to work as Coffee Shop Hostess at the CharterHouse Restaurant until the early 90’s.
Mom enjoyed her retirement with Monday afternoon bowling at Rossmere Lanes, making perogies with the Catholic Women’s League ladies at St. Alphonsus Church and being part of a Cribbage league at the East St. Paul Community Centre.
Our mom lived for her family, giving her many reasons to cook very special dinners for all of our birthdays and anniversaries. She was a loving caring wife, mother, nana and great nana who will be sadly missed.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the health care professionals at the Riverview Health Centre (Chronic Respiratory Health Unit). Your kindness, gentle caring & support will never be forgotten.
Mom touched many peoples’ lives and was loved by all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends, and forever remembered.
Due to current restrictions and our desire for everyone to remain safe, the family will arrange a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 204-949-2000.
Condolences may be added to the tribute wall on the Cropo website at www.cropo.com.
Arrangements entrusted to Cropo Funeral Chapel.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de KATHERINE
