1949-2020
With broken hearts we share the news that Karen Rosalie
Simpson (Smith) of Kentville, passed away peacefully at home with her
family at her side on Saturday, October 3, 2020. She was born on
February 21, 1949, in Kentville, Nova Scotia and was the proud
daughter of the late Frank and Della (Cox) Smith. Karen
received her education at Central Kings Rural High School, then
continued on to graduate from Mack Business College in 1968. She
quickly began a successful career and had been employed by: F. W.
Robinson, United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Archibald Farms,
Shur-Gain, Dick Killam Photography and the Old Orchard Inn. Although
she had many different types of jobs her favorite was always her years
as a stay at home Mom to her three children. Karen will be forever
remembered as being a generous, devoted and loving wife, mother,
grandmother, and friend and the most positive person that people ever
met. She was a kindhearted, hardworking, determined and gracious woman
who always made sure others were taken care of. She enjoyed family
gatherings, having people play charades and writing funny poems for
special occasions. Every person that met her will always remember her
perseverance, kindness and wit. Karen loved her husband, her three
children, their spouses and six grandchildren with all of her heart.
She loved to watch every game and performance they were involved in
and appreciated every piece of artwork they made her. She was involved
with them from their first breath to her last. She was
always so proud. Karen made each person she met better just by being
herself. Karen was a longtime member of the Billtown Baptist Church
and the Jean Rushton Auxiliary. She was also a Life Member of the
Women’s Missionary Society and held various positions on committees,
including church clerk. She was also a member of a cancer
support group (Tapestry). Karen loved baking, ceramics, quilting and
knitting. She especially enjoyed teaching some of her grandchildren
how to knit. She loved to travel and vacation with Lowell and go for
drives with no destination in mind to enjoy what God and the world had
to offer. Karen married the love of her life, Gregory Lowell on August
9, 1969. She is survived by her husband, Lowell; her two sons, Greg
(Tanya) Halifax and Mark (Cynthia) Hammonds Plains; her only daughter,
