“Mom was the Matriarch of our family. She was a tower of strength and encouragement who always pushed us to try harder, to want the best out of our lives and to always see the good in people”
“She held our hands for just a short while but will hold our hearts forever. We love you Mom”
ALICE KAMITOMO passed away peacefully at the Raymond Hospital in Raymond on Tuesday August 4th, 2020 at 86 years of age. It is with great sadness that we say goodby to our Mom who loved us unconditionally, was an unwaivering and uncompromising positive force and was always there for Dad and us children no matter the circumstance.
Alice was married to her husband Doug Kamitomo for 64 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Mark (Theresa) Kamitomo, Cindy (Barry) Littlemore, Gary (Lorri) Kamitomo and Sandra (Mike) Burns. Additionally, her grandchildren Taylor (Sierra) Kamitomo, Kelsey Kamitomo, Kiley Kamitomo, Brandon Littlemore, Graeme Littlemore, Jesse Kamitomo, Travis Kamitomo, Mika Burns and Koby Burns.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Doug Kamitomo, her sister Fumi Sekiya, her brother Mickey Moriyama and her mother Sally Moriyama.
Alice was born in Raymond on March 29th, 1934. Her early years were difficult ones where her family struggled with poverty. She recounted many times the kindness and caring of the people of Raymond who provided her family with food when they needed it most. She never forgot that kindness and until her passing, held a special place in her heart for those individuals who helped her family through the difficult times. She met Doug while working at the hospital on the reservation. Following their marriage on March 3rd, 1956, Alice worked at the Raymond Hospital and the Raymond Clinic in the lab and radiology. She was an avid golfer taking up the sport close to her retirement. Like all the things she took on in her life, she pursued golf with a passion that led to her recording 3 holes in one. She was also an avid downhill skiier often following her children down some of the steepest runs on the hill. She was never afraid to take on a new challenge and lived her life to the fullest. Her best friend in life was her sister Fumi Sekiya who unfortunately predeceased Alice. Along with Doug, she is now reunited with Fumi.
Unfortunately, Alice suffered a small stroke and in her last years resided in the long term care section of the Raymond Hospital where she remained until her passing. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and other staff whose kindness and caring for Alice made the last years of her life peaceful and happy. Due to COVID 19, a service will be deferred and will be scheduled in the near future when the restrictions are lifted. In the interim, the family requests that in lieu of flowers and Koden, please consider making a donation to the Alberta Parkinson’s Association (120, 6835 Railway St SE, Calgary, AB T2H 2V6) in memory of Alice.
