June Rose Wells
1933-2020
It is with deep sadness that the family of June Rose Wells
announces her unexpected passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital
on Saturday, September 19th, at the age of 87.
June leaves behind her daughter, Ruth Clements (Les) and her
son, Wayne (Helen) as well as her grandchildren, Michael Clements
(Katy) of South Korea, Jim Clements (Shelley) of Fredericton, Anthony
Wells (Sarah) of Beaverdam, and Jennifer Rose (Corey Grey) of Scotch
Settlement. In addition, June was blessed with two
great-grandchildren, Madison Rose and Parker Wells.
June was born on April 7th, 1933 in Stourbridge, West
Midlands, England to Henry Ernest Dutton and Acacia Olive
Hewitt. Prior to her marriage, Mom worked as a
« window-dresser » and salesclerk in a ladies shop, a job she
immensely enjoyed. On November 10th, 1955, she married our
Dad, John Wells, also of Stourbridge. A year later, they
welcomed their first child, Ruth. Due to the austere
conditions in post-war England and a desire for a better future, Mom
and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1958.
Dad joined the Canadian Armed Forces in the early 1960’s, and
the family was first posted to Kingston, Ontario, where son, Wayne,
was born. They were then posted to CFB Gagetown. Mom settled into
family life in Oromocto, raising Ruth and Wayne. She began an at-home
career as a professional seamstress, providing alterations and
custom-made clothing to the residents of Oromocto. In 1982,
Mom and Dad moved to 342 Gilmour Street in Oromocto, a house they both
loved due to it’s proximity to the Oromocto Golf Club for Dad and
shopping for Mom. Mom so enjoyed her years at this house with it’s
shady backyard and numerous bird-feeders. Mom and Dad spent
many days, in all seasons, walking the Oromocto Golf Club, with a
series of English Springer Spaniels.
Upon Dad’s death in 2016, Mom had to leave her beloved home
in Oromocto due to declining health, a change she never really got
over. She took up residence at Windsor Court in Fredericton, where she
received excellent care and attention for the last four
years.
June had many interests including sewing which she was very
accomplished, gardening, water-colour painting, and most of all,
shopping. Once she got her drivers’ license in her 50’s, she was
always on the hunt for presents for the family, some choices,
successful and others, not so much. Mom had a passion for
jewellery and was known by name at several local jewellery
stores.
Mom loved her family dearly and was always interested in
their welfare. Her mobility declined considerably in the
last two years, making visits to Ruth and Wayne’s homes increasingly
difficult. However, this past NB Day week-end, she did enjoy a
barbeque at Ruth’s home, with her son, Wayne and daughter-in-law,
Helen present. To have her children around her, sitting in the
sunshine on a beautiful summer’s day, and watching the birds at the
bird-feeder, was an absolute joy to Mom, and a memory both Ruth and
Wayne will cherish.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service for family
and invited guests only will be held at St. John’s Anglican
Church, Oromocto, on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 2 pm with Rev.
Canon Walter Williams officiating. For those who wish, memorial
donations may be made to Oromocto SPCA.
