June’s Obituary
June Kristy Burke of Jacksonville NB, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday December 2, 2020 at Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville, New Brunswick, after a long battle with cancer.
June was born in Edmonton, Alberta on June 30, 1963. She was the daughter of Charles “Jerry” Burke and Andrea Burke.
June was a very down to earth lady who took life day by day and had a fantastic attitude about life. “It is what it is” was her motto. It helped her deal with the 5 year battle with cancer and those words resonate in the minds of many she has touched with her love, compassion and generosity in spirit.
June had a great love for animals, and cats in particular. She would often tell stories to friends about her beloved pets who had passed away, pointing to the photos on her living room walls. She’d also keep you very well informed as to the current antics of Cuddles and Merlin, her two cats. Her love for animals extended beyond her own as she’d be the first person to help someone with a bag of cat food to feed some strays. She was a supporter of the K9 division of the RCMP and the Seeing Eye Dogs for the blind.
June loved her food, to cook it, eat it and to share it with others. She was famous for her Christmas peanut butter balls, cookies, chocolates, brittle and more. She loved to cook and make people happy with what she’d create and bake. June worked in the food industry for many years and she’d speak of her times working at places like A&W and Greco right up until she passed. She made many friends and touched just as many lives when she worked, developing some lovely long lasting friendships along the way.
June made granny squares, in fact, she had more squares than she knew what to do with, so she made blankets that went to families in need, were used in fund raising efforts, and were made for friends as well as family. Many of her blankets are found around Carleton County and across Canada as well. Crocheting granny squares kept her hands busy.
You’d always find June involved in helping someone or something furry. You’d find her sorting clothing for a family who’d lost everything in a fire, or getting items together for a new mother, you would even find her buying food for local strays that other people fed. She was a loving, compassionate, generous person and if that wasn’t enough in a friend, she was smart and brilliantly funny. Her sense of humour was quick, witty and often dry and she had an opinion about most everything and wasn’t afraid to share it.
June was a wonderful lady, a great friend and will be thought of often and missed twice as much.
She is predeceased by her father Charles “Jerry” Burke and survived by her mother Andrea Burke, her sister Kelly and her husband Corey Newman and her two sons Colin and Jessie and her brother Richard Burke and his wife Tennille.
