Obituary of Julia Marie MacInnis, Glace Bay
Our mother, Julia MacInnis, age 74 passed away on Saturday, November 14th, 2020 at the Glace Bay Hospital with her three girls by her side. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Moore) MacInnis.
Julia was a free spirit. She enjoyed picking blueberries and baking all things blueberry. Julia was an avid skater and walker; she loved the beach and collecting sea glass, the outdoors brought her so much peace. She was formerly employed at the K-Mart Pharmacy.
Julia was always full of mischief and had a great sense of humour and kept it until the very end.
She is survived by her three daughters, Catherine Ann Gillard (Mike Belcourt), Darlene Marie Gillard (Sheldon Whitty), Tracy Lynn Gillard- White (Adam White), five sisters, Emily McGuigan, Anne (Jerry) Vermette, Agnes Sharpe, Betty Shaheen, Frances (nee MacInnis) Rituno Morrison, five brothers, Joe MacInnis, Alan (Anne) MacInnis, Paul (Cindy) MacInnis, Greg (Jackie) MacInnis and Danny (Heather) MacInnis.
Julia is survived by seven grandchildren, Deanna (Brennan) Burrows, Justin Brann, Bradley Fitzgerald, Tyler Cathcart, Dana (Ashley) Cathcart, Rylie White, Khoner White, two great grandchildren, Brielle and Brett, and a baby Cathcart on the way,many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She will be sadly missed by her very good friend and neighbor, Juanita.
Many thanks to Dr. John Rogers whose constant care and vigilance helped our mother find her peace to enjoy her last couple of years, to Tom and the crew at Dominion Guest Home, we couldn’t have asked for better care for our mother and finally to the nursing staff on 3 East at the Glace Bay Hospital for their constant compassion for our mother which made her last days bearable.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no services. Instead go out for dinner and celebrate her life. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
