Joseph Oscar Breau
June 01, 1929 – December 19, 2020

June 1, 1929 – December 19, 2020. Oscar passed away peacefully on December 19th after a short period in hospital. Oscar was born in Gardner, Mass., to Pierre and Elodie Breau (Gagnon) on June 1, 1929 but moved to his family’s province of New Brunswick at a young age. As a young man Oscar was involved in scouting, family activities and completing his education. Oscar joined the CNR in Moncton and retired from the engineering department after 35 years. Oscar wed Lilliane, the love of his life on August 1, 1959 and celebrated their 61st Anniversary this year. Oscar was hard-working and devoted his life to his family and their many activities. He spent many days driving the family to ballroom dancing, swim team, football or choir practices. He often packed the family up for camping trips that created many fond memories. As an adult, Oscar was an avid model railroad enthusiast and a devoted Habs fan. He and Lilliane volunteered for many years at the Capital Theatre in Moncton. They also spent many joyful hours as members of Christ the King Catholic Church in Moncton. Oscar and Lilliane frequently travelled to Gloucester, Mass., to relax by the sea on Good Harbour Beach for over 35 years. This became a family destination and his children and grandchildren who spent many Thanksgiving celebrations together. Later he and Lilliane travelled further from home, discovering many countries in Europe together. They went on to enjoy many cruise trips from Alaska, Panama, Caribbean and Europe. Oscar lived life with grace. He faced challenges in life (Alzheimers, cancer) with acceptance, always choosing to see the positive in everything and everyone. He taught us pure love for each other and how to be happy with the simple things in life. He always said, « Contentez-vous de peux et vous serez heureux ». Oscar is survived by his wife, Lilliane Breau (Cormier); his children, Robert Breau (Heather), Charles Breau (Karen), Monique Miller (Todd); grandchildren, Jerad Miller, Stefan Miller, Renée Breau, Brielle Breau and Jaylynne Breau; sister, Bernice Simmons. He was predeceased by his sister, Helena Cormier; and brothers, Fred and Raymond Breau. The family would like to thank the staff at Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, 3rd floor east wing for their care of Oscar in his final days. We appreciate the care provided by Dr. Kohler, Dr. Stewart and Dr. Urquhart and the time they spent communicating with our father and family. A special thanks to Dr. Chris McKnight for his dedication to our father’s care with such kindness. Interment will take place at a private family ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
