Obituary of John Edmond Pye
Obituary for John Pye- A good and kind husband, father and grandfather. A good man.
John Edmond Pye (93) of Goderich Ontario died at Blue Water Nursing Home, Zurich, Ontario January 22, 2020. John lived with Parkinson’s Disease for 15 years with grace and fortitude. Born August 1,1926 in Dagenham, London , England to Arthur and Marcelle (Courtard). Predeceased by his parents, sister Marcelle and husband David Jordan and brother Joseph (Rose) Pye and brother Joseph in England, he is survived by his brother Peter of East Ham, London, England and sister Mary (Vic d.) Gray of Wye, Kent, England and Philip (Katherine) Pye of London, Ontario. John is mourned by his wife of 69 years Cecelia (Munden) Pye, his children Susan (Vito Stecca) Pye of Goderich, Ontario; Phliip (Setsuko Shigetomi) Pye of Whitby, Ontario; Lisa (Robert Beauchene) Pye of Weston, Wisconsin USA. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Julia (Bruce) McLeod of Vancouver, BC; Cecelia (Jeremy Seal) Pye of Madrid, Spain; Nicholas Pye of Toronto, Ontario; great grandchildren Caelan and Madeline McLeod. John was also a fond grandfather to Tony (Myra) Stecca of Goderich, Ontario; Julia Edin of Stockholm, Sweden; Emily (Jesse) Mabon of Kincardine, Ontario and great grandfather to Arlo and Nico Stecca, Freja and Finn Edin, and Adela Mabon. He was kind uncle to Anna (Shawn) Clifford of Guelph, Ontario and Greg Pye of London, Ontario, as well as numerous nephews and nieces in England.
John and Cecelia emigrated from England to London, Ontario in 1960, where he soon found employment as accountant at 3M Canada, and retired there after 30 years service. John and Cecelia raised their family in London; his life was centred around Cecelia and their family. Funny, witty and almost always cheerful, he whistled and sang around the house, in the car, in mall parking lots and other public places, to the embarrassment perhaps of his kids in their teenage years but fondly remembered now. After retirement, John and Cecelia enjoyed living on Lake Huron south of Bayfield, until relocating to Goderich in 2001. Always fit and active, well into his 80s John was running along the boardwalk and up Harbour Hill (in slow motion perhaps but still running), dropping in random spots along the way to complete his personal goal of 100 push ups per day.
Cecelia and family are deeply grateful to all the staff but particularly the Sunset Wing at Bluewater Nursing Home, where John spent his last year, for their kind and respectful care. It was clear that they knew and enjoyed the man he was, and this was a great comfort to us.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held in Goderich on June 27, 2020; time and location to be determined and shared at a later time.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Parkinson’s Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to Falconer Funeral Homes – Bluewater Chapel, Goderich.
