DENTON, John Wilfred – John Denton left this world on the 17th of April 2020, in his 93rd year. It was an exceptional life. Born September 1st, 1927 to Wilfred Denton and Kathleen Trotter in Toronto. Predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years Mary Crouch and older brother David. Father to Tim (Diane); Scott; and Mark (Sherri). Grandfather to Bradley Step Grandfather to Michael, Melissa, Brittney and Mitchell and Great Grandfather to Nolan and Dawson. Uncle to 12 nieces and nephews.
John served in the merchant marine during the end of WW2. Thereafter he earned his degree at the Phildelphia Textile Institute and joined Monarch Knitting in St. Catherines. In 1958 he founded Vagden Mills in Belleville subsequently moving it to Trenton as a premium maker of socks throughout North America. Little known was John’s passion for building, he built by hand a beautiful cottage on Lake Muskoka, as well he had a love of designing and building furniture. But there was no greater love than golf. John played at many of the worlds best known courses from St. Andrews to Pebble Beach. He loved them all. He was an avid photographer, loved skiing, exotic cars, and gadgets big and small.
John was a long time member of the Kiwanis, was a past warden at St. Thomas Church and supporter of many charities including Belleville General Hospital, where donations in lieu of flowers are appreciated. We will deeply miss his wise counsel. A celebration of life very well lived will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the RUSHNELL FUNERAL CENTRE 60 Division St., Trenton (613-392-2111). To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.rushnellfamilyservices.com
