Obituary
The death of John « Ray » Raymond Whipple, of Saint John, New Brunswick, much loved husband of Rose Marie Whipple (Morris) of nearly 55 years, occurred on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, on February 17,1943 to the late Walter and Olive (McGrath) Whipple.
Ray was well recognized within the community retiring as a barber having owned Jerry’s Barbershop at 55 Canterbury St for 25 years, but also for the 25 years prior when he owned and operated Whipple’s Express.
He enjoyed remaining active his entire life first excelling in baseball, racquetball, and having a special talent for bowling where he was highly ranked within the city and transitioning in later years to daily walks at Rockwood Park. His love for sport was especially evident while he coached his son’s baseball team and watched his grandsons play hockey.
Ray especially cherished the time spent with his closest friends Dave Boucher, Corry LeClair, and John Demerson.
His family will miss him deeply, especially his wife and partner of 55 years Rose Marie, as their children, and grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Ray is survived by his children, Grant (Taryn) Whipple of Saint John; Jennifer (Sean) Mooney, of Quispamsis; sister, Lynn (Henry) Hebert, of Saint John; grandchildren, Sean Whipple, Joshua Whipple; and much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers Ronald, Walter (Buddy) and Gerald (Doug) Whipple, his sisters, Betty Smith and Darlene in infancy.
A private ceremony will be held by the family at a future time. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd, Saint John, (646-2424). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society.
