John “Jack” William Astles
1930-2020
It is with great sadness that the family of John
« Jack » Astles announce his passing at the Saint John
Regional Hospital on February 16th, 2020 in his 90th year. Born in
Chatham, NB, on March 28th, 1930, he was the son of the late Thomas
and Viola (Campbell) Astles.
John « Jack » leaves behind a son, Andrew (Shirley)
Astles of Geary; daughters, Debra (Kelvin) McDonald of Deseronto, ON,
Darlene (Brian) Valentiate of Rusagonis and Melody (Daniel) Carr of
Geary; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 3 great-great
grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Astles of Ottawa, ON. In
addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his loving wife of 56
years, Priscilla « Pat » (Campbell) Astles, daughter, Joyce
Astles, grandson, Thomas (Tibbett) McDonald, brother Douglas and
sister, Dora (Eddy).
A visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on
Wednesday, February 19th, 2020 from 6-8 pm and on Thursday, February
20th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. There will be a Knights of Columbus tribute
at 5:45 pm on Wednesday and an Oromocto Legion #93 tribute at 1:45 pm
on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St.
Mary’s Catholic Chapel, Tilley Ave, CFB Gagetown on Friday,
February 21st, 2020 at 2 pm with Fr. Lance Magdziak as celebrant.
Burial will take place in Preston Carr Cemetery in the spring. In lieu
of flowers, donations to Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the
Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated by the
family.
