John’s Obituary
John Dyck, beloved husband of Mary Dyck of Norquay, SK, passed away at the Kamsack Hospital on February 28, 2020, at the age of 83 years.
John was born on July 4, 1936 in Hague, SK, to Isaac and Maria (Janzen) Dyck.
He was one of ten children. When he was a young boy, his family moved to the farm, west of Arabella, SK. John completed his grade 3 education and worked on the farm in the summers. During the winters, he worked at Inco in Thompson, MB and in logging mills in Merritt, BC. After his dad passed away in 1953, John lived with his mom and his brother, Jake, until Jake got married in 1977. After his mom passed away in 1977, John maintained the family farm independently. In 1990, he married Mary Neufeld and moved to Mary’s farm, where they lived until their move to Norquay in 2000.
John loved gardening and playing guitar in church until a few years ago, when he became unable to continue. He won awards at Norquay Horticultural for top potatoes and vegetables. He also greatly enjoyed becoming a grandpa and great grandpa. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Maria; brothers: Henry, Ike, Peter (Jean), and Jake (Phyllis, Kelvin, Cameron and Shannon); sister, Anne Braun (Cornie), brother-in-law, Jim McAuley and stepdaughter; Debbie Neufeld.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sisters: Marie (Charlie) Martin, Marge Dyck, and Sarah McCully; brother, Herman (Lena) Dyck; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as step-children: David (Yvonne), Leanne, Larry (Brenda), and Joanne; 7 grandchildren: Ryan Neufeld, Dexter Neufeld, Jocelyn Guckert (Trey), Amanda Wall (Jeremy), Justin Neufeld, Gavin Neufeld, Tyneille Neufeld and 6 great grandchildren.
A Public Visitation was held from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK. A Graveside Service/Committal preceded the service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2020, in the Arabella Community Cemetery, north of Norquay, SK. A Memorial Service was then held at the Norquay Covenant Church with Pastor Frankie Kim and Pastor Arden Gustafson co-officiating. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Ketchen Lake Bible Camp or to the N.I.C.E. Centre, Norquay, SK, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of John Dyck.
