Joan Evelyn Hedley
1933-2020
It is with sadness we announce the passing of
Joan Evelyn Hedley, age 87, formally of
Ottawa. Joan passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge on Sunday,
December 6, 2020.
Born in River Hebert NS, she was a daughter of the late
Robert and Marion (Burbine) Hedley.
Joan graduated from River Hebert Royal High then went on to
business school at Mount St. Bernard in Antigonish. She worked a year
at the Royal Bank in Halifax. Joan joined the convent at age 20 then
spent 18 years working for the community in various positions in
education for CND. She received her undergraduate degree from St. FX
and her Masters from University of North Dakota before teaching
business at Western University for 2 years. Joan moved to Ottawa,
teaching business for the Carleton School Board where she retired in
1989. After her retirement, she continued to work for the CND
community in Ottawa.
Joan will be dearly missed by her sisters Eleanor (Mel)
Shipley of Peterborough, ON, Gloria McCarthy of Greenwood, NS, Carolyn
Melanson of Joggins, and Lynn Gorman of Hammonds Plains, NS; brothers
Robert (Gayle) of Trenton, ON and Jack (Annamarie) of Riverview, NB;
sister-in-law Dee Dee Hedley, Calgary, AB; as well as several nieces
and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Peter
and sisters Delores, Anne, Jeanette and Susan.
Arrangements
have been entrusted to the Jones Family Funeral
Centre 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777)
Cremation has taken place. A Mass and graveside service will take
place at a later date in the Ragged Reef cemetery.
Those wishing to make a donation in Joan’s memory may do so
to the St. Thomas Aquinas Church or charity of choice.
