Obituary of Jan Hendrik « Henk » Pennings
PENNINGS – Jan Hendrik « Henk » of St. Thomas passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, February 6, 2020. The Lord took to Himself our dear husband, father, and opa in his 93rd year. He will be greatly missed by his dear wife of over 65 years, Gerda (nee. Vandenbor). Henk is survived by children Ron Pennings (Marilyn), Herb Pennings (Wilma), Frank Pennings (Adriana), Joanne Fousert (Frank) , Linda Brouwer (Allan) , Diane Postma (Rick) and Lucy van Eyk (John). Henk will be missed by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dear brother to the late Ben, late John and Henny Pennings, late Wilma and Jack Dejong, Christine and late Bill Van Oene , Bertha and late Fred Dejong, John Pennings (Mary) , Will Pennings (Sara), Gary Pennings (Ineke), Albert Pennings (Annette). Dear brother in law to Alice Doelman (late Brian), Bertha Pol (late Bill) and John Vandenbor (Allison) and the many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by son in law Gary Vandenbrink (2012). Henk came to Canada from Holland in 1948 and worked at Sterling Fuels in Port Stanley and moved to a farm in Southwold Station in 1965 and retired in St. Thomas in 2002. He was an active member of the Free Reformed Church. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of the ICU for their excellent care and compassion. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Monday, February 10, 2020 from 1:00 – 3:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at St. Thomas Free Reformed Church, 145 St George St, St Thomas at 2:00 p.m. Private family interment to take place prior to the service at McArthur Cemetery.
