YOUNG, James (Jim) 85yrs
We are saddened to announce that our Dad passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 27, 2020 in the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, NL.
Born on July 23, 1935 in Stephenville, he was the son of the late James Young and Carrie (LaFitte) (Young) Viscount; James Viscount (stepfather).
Dad « Pops » is survived by: his children: Leila (Danny) and Trent both of Stephenville, NL, Calvin (Judy), Grand Lake, NS, James (Lynn), Philip (Nadine), Stephen (Maili), and Pauline (John), all of Winnipeg, MB, and chosen son Jason (Lori) Chaffey, Stephenville, NL. He was a much-loved Poppy by his grandchildren: Nastazia, Jeffrey, Adam, Calvin, Devon, Josh, Noah, Evelyn, Pauline, Morgan, Rowan, Bailey, Douglas and Nadine.
Dad is survived by his brother Reg; and sister-in-law Martina Viscount. Dad was proud to be a great grandfather, a great-great grandfather and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Dad is predeceased by: his loving wife Mary Alice (2005); son Hayden; brothers: Raymond and Herbert, sisters: Mercedes and Marie; and a special person Dad met later in his life Diane Claeys.
Dad enjoyed an extensive career as a Bricklayer and Cement Finisher in Stephenville and throughout Newfoundland & Labrador. In his early years Dad was employed with the Harmon (U.S.A.) Air Force Base, Stephenville and a highlight of Dad’s career was being recruited as a member of the team on the Hibernia Project. The platform was towed to the Hibernia oil field and positioned on the ocean floor in June of 1997.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sheila Lewis and her team for the excellent care and support provided to our Dad.
Cremation has taken place and due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, a private family graveside service is planned for next year. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society- www.cancer.ca or to a charity of your choice.
