Obituary: James Patten
Passed peacefully away at G. B. Cross Hospital, Clarenville, on May 19, 2020, James Patten of George’s Brook, aged 70.
Predeceased by his parents, Francis and Helen Patten, brother Bob Patten, and first wife Mary (Maher) Patten. Left to mourn are his wife, Janet Headge-Patten; daughters Renee (Tone) Osbourne, Raquel Patten (David D’Allaire), son Joey Patten(Carrie Milley); grandchildren Dylan, Alyson, Brandon, Robert, Hailey, and Rylie; great-grandchildren Christopher and Kaleb; siblings Bill Patten (Marion) and Frances Arnold (Aubrey); and many relatives and friends.
Born in Dundee, Scotland, in 1950, Jim came to Canada with his family in 1957, when they settled in his father’s hometown, Traytown. His family was his greatest pride, and he travelled far to provide for them. Jim lived in PEI, Labrador, Alberta, NS, BC, and NB before returning to Newfoundland in 2012. When health ended his auto body career, he set up an online comic business, and later took up painting, being very proud of his first sale. Despite the health challenges of his later years, Jim remained a man of spirit and energy to the end.
Cremation will take place immediately. Due to Covid19, a memorial service will be held at a later time when all his family and friends can come together.
Thanks to the staff at G. B. Cross Hospital and the Clarenville Dialysis Unit. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in his memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
