James (Jamie) Michael Anthony Hudak, 56, of Cow Bay passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2020.
Born on 20 April 1964 in Halifax, he was the youngest child of Jean (Myers) Hudak of Cow Bay and the late John Hudak. He was also predeceased by his sister Susanne.
Jamie is survived by four brothers: John of Eastern Passage, Peter (Barb) of Cole Harbour, Karl (Christine) and Donald (Hanka) of Cow Bay. He is also survived by two sisters: Rosemarie (Tom) and Genevieve (Reg) of Cow Bay. In addition, Jamie is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Up until his illness, Jamie worked with Reliance Offshore as a cook on the Deep Panuke (PFC) natural gas platform near Sable Island off the coast of Nova Scotia. He sincerely appreciated his time in the offshore, and made several lasting friends…his best buddies.
A graduate of the Nova Scotia Nautical School, he travelled to Europe, Africa, South America and many areas of the US and Canada; a total of 27 Countries! He chatted with everyone he met on these journeys, and was always proud to say he was a Canadian, a Nova Scotian and that he lived in such a special place as Cow Bay! Jamie loved Cow Bay for its unique sense of community, and was particularly fond of the Cow Bay Hall, originally built in 1888. He was the impetus for restoring and maintaining the Hall.
Jamie felt that he was not well in May of 2018, and was diagnosed with ALS in August 2019.
Many thanks to Dr. George Richardson (and Frances), Dr. Tim Holland, Dr. Nick Humphreys, Dr. Amanda Fiander, and Dr. Suzanne Salzman.
Special gratitude to Rosemarie and Tom, Karl and Christine and Donald; they understood the nature of Jamie’s illness and helped in every possible way, asking for nothing in return.
Sincere appreciation to special neighbors and friends are due to Joe and Carolyn Scott, Steven and Louise Mosher, Jeff and Alice Wong, Henk and Liz Kwindt and Jamie and Doreen Myers, all of Cow Bay.
Special thanks to Don and Doris Warwick, Nora Tilley, Olive Henman, Eva Naugle and Rita Shore for their many kindnesses, all of Eastern Passage, and to Anne Peers of Halifax.
Warm appreciation to Mark MacArthur and Iain MacDonald; they were always there for Jamie, his best buddies.
A gathering for friends and family will take place at the Cow Bay Hall at a later date.
In memory of Jamie, donations may be made to the QE2 Health Sciences Center or to the Social and Beneficial Society of Cow Bay for the Cow Bay Hall.
