James Jim Legere Saturday July 25 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of husband, father, brother grandfather and friend, James (“Jim”) Joseph Legere on July 25th, 2020 at Fenelon Court Long Term Care Home, Fenelon Falls, Ontario at the age of 80.
Jim was born on September 21st, 1939 in River Hebert, Nova Scotia. He is preceded in death by his parents Phoebe Lalia Legere (née O’Brien) and James Joseph Legere, and his brother Douglas Legere.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 33 years, Judith Legere (née Storms), and sister Myrna Smith (Gerald, predeceased). He will be forever remembered by his children with Lilo Legere (née Letz, predeceased); Lisa (Kevin), Christine (Doug, predeceased), Mark (Jennifer) and his beloved granddaughters, Emma and Kaitlin, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
As a very young man, Jim learned to work hard to support his family. In 1953, he joined the Canadian Merchant Navy at the age of 14 (despite the minimum age requirements of 16 years) and was a Merchant Marine for 4 years. Jim began his career at Gray Coach Lines. After 28 years with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), he retired in 1995.
Jim forever loved his Atlantic Canadian roots, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. They will forever hold fond memories of times spent by the ocean clamming, catching fireflies and fossil hunting with him. He embodied the typical “East Coast personality”, as he was kind, humble, friendly to all, and would happily give you the shirt off of his back. He will perhaps be remembered best for his quick-wit, humour, smile and his laughter.
Jim had a lasting love of old-time country music and blues. He was also a life-long animal-lover, with a special spot in his heart for dogs. He had a penchant for telling stories and will live on through them (“you’re not necessarily supposed to believe it … you’re just supposed to believe in it”). He was always happiest enjoying time with those he loved, and those who loved him back.
A private ceremony for close family members will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to your local S.P.C.A Humane Society (www.ontariospca.ca) or to the Diabetes Canada Association (www.diabetes.ca/donate).
