Obituary of Jack McLachlan
With profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, John (Jack) Alexander McLachlan, at Craigholme, in Ailsa Craig, Ontario on the morning of March 13, 2020.
Jack was born in East Williams Township on September 16, 1930. A farmer all his life, he married our mother Emily Jane Whiting on June 6, 1953, and moved to their farm where they made their life together for over 60 years. He was a talented gardener, with the best asparagus, tomatoes and sweet corn around. He loved to go camping, fish, hunt and watch baseball. He participated in many plowing matches, always trying to achieve the perfect furrow. He was a great dancer and would always be up on the floor when he heard his favourites, “From a Jack to a King”, and “Crystal Chandeliers”, — especially when his brother Ab’s band Beechwood, was playing. He also loved to go for long, rambling drives, especially to Tim’s in Parkhill for a coffee and a chat with the boys.
Dad volunteered for many organizations, served on municipal council and worked in insurance sales. He leaves many friends who he found along the way, in each of his endeavours.
Loving and devoted husband of his late wife Emily. Dearly loved and loving father of Shirley Knott (late Tom), Jim & Yvonne McLachlan, Connie Sutherland, and Ward & Michele McLachlan.
Dearly loved and loving grandfather of Catherine & Daniel Leonard, Deborah Knott & Chris Elliott, Virginia & Braydon Bartko, Taryn and Devin McLachlan and Claire, Grace and Olivia Sutherland.
Great grandfather of Oliver and Theodore Bartko.
Loved and missed by his brothers, Duncan and Ken McLachlan, his sister Marg Walker, and sister in law Libby McLachlan. Predeceased by his sister Elizabeth McKichan and brother Albert McLachlan.
Survived by Emily’s in-laws, Margaret Whiting, Frank Speers, and Keith Thiel and many cousins, nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
We would like to get together with all our friends and family to remember Dad, but in light of the concerns about gatherings, our family will wait to have a Celebration of Life when things settle down.
Cremation has taken place. If desired, donations may be made to Craigweil Gardens, where Dad received the most wonderful care in his last year of life.
