Ivan Grein, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2020 in his 91st year after a full and well-lived life.
Born in Ayton, Ontario, on March 20, 1930 to the late George and Hilda (Fischer) Grein, Ivan grew up in Hanover. He owned and operated Grein’s meat market and Lucky Dollar grocery store in Mount Forest. In 1964, Ivan moved back to Hanover to work in sales for J.M. Schneider Ltd. for 29 years before retiring. Ivan was proud of his German heritage and especially loved German music. In his younger years, he enjoyed travelling with his family and friends, and later on made many great memories at Lake Rosalind. Ivan had a lot of good times with his many friends over the years. He enjoyed learning and had a sharp mind. Family was always his first priority and we were blessed with a quiet, kind, compassionate, thoughtful, and loving man. He was a true gentleman. He will be so very missed.
Survived by beloved wife and best friend of 68 years, Doreen (Fenwick) Grein, and children Cindy (Uwe) Wulff of Mannheim, George (Nora) Grein of Walkerton, Sandra (Dan) Wong of Walkerton, and Ann Lupal (Greg McCabe) of Guelph. Dearly missed by grandchildren Jessica (Wes) Kropf, Julie (Jamie) Lang, Nikita and Tianna Wong, Brock (Ali), Jake and Hunter Lupal, and great grandchildren Nixon Kropf and Aria Lang. Fondly remembered by siblings Ross (Carolyn) Grein of Espanola, Alvin Grein of Hanover, Ione Warden of Oshawa, and Irene Netzke of Burlington, and sister-in-law Betty (John) Hunter of Barrie, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister Pauline (Keith) Armstrong, sister Lorraine in infancy, brother Fred Grein, sister-in-law Liz Grein, and brothers-in-law George Warden and Bob Netzke.
