Irene Marks
(née Marston)
January 15, 1917 – December 17, 2020.
On Thursday, December 17, 2020, just shy of her 104th birthday. Wife of the late Lawrence Marks QC, daughter of the late Shelley Marston and the late David Marston. She was an amazing woman who made an impact on all whom she met and who knew her. Born in Dresden, she fled Nazi Germany with her parents in 1939 and came to Canada where she married Lawrence Marks and became a proud Canadian. Most of her life she devoted her time to community work and her family. She was one of three women who started the Golden Age Association which later grew into the Cummings Center. A much beloved and incredibly supportive mother and mother-in- law to Isobel Marks and the late Ross MacCormack, Karin Marks and Brian Puddington, grandmother of Sue Ann Puddington and Carmen Puddington and great-grandmother of Kylie Savage. Her strength and resilience were part of what made her stand out along with her kindness and sense of humor. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews for whom she was the favourite aunt. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Sincere thanks to her caregivers, Dr. Loan Lam and the supportive staff at the CLSC. Shiva strictly private. Donations in her memory may be made to the “Irene Marks Endowment Fund” c/o Temple Emanu-el Beth Sholom, (514) 937-3575.
