Irene Eleanor Parks -It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Eleanor Parks, wife of Donald Richard Parks of Percy Kelly Drive, Miramichi. Irene passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the age of 73. Irene was born on August 6, 1946 in Chatham, NB. She was the daughter of Francis (Ford) Morrison and the late Louis Morrison. She was the eldest of 8 siblings, and attended St. Mary’s Academy Convent High School, graduating in 1964. She then went on to become a Registered Nurse through the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. She was employed at both the Chatham and Newcastle hospitals, where she worked as an Emergency Department nurse. She married Don on June 8, 1968, and together they began a family and built their home in Douglastown. As their family grew, she chose to work part-time as a R.N. in Dr. J. Wilson’s office. Irene enjoyed these years of employment when she forged many lasting friendships with those she worked with at the office. Once diagnosed with breast cancer in March 1999, she took a leave from nursing. After treatment and subsequent remission, she took part- time employment at Park Place. It was working there she was able to put her sense of style and eye for home décor to work. She always enjoyed gift wrapping the items purchased which looked as impressive as most of the gifts. As part of her recovery, she followed her calling and decided to complete the RN refresher program, then went back to work as a RN for a brief time at the outpatient clinics at the Miramichi Regional Hospital and then later at Dr J Hans office.Irene is a former Board Member of St. Samuel’s Roman Catholic Church, taught catechism, and was a volunteer at Newcastle Food Bank.
Irene was proud to be a nurse and was well known for her professionalism in nursing. She was a loving, dedicated, and caring mother from whom we learned to have a great work ethic, be accountable both in our work and at home to our loved ones and family. She will be missed for the early morning coffee chats, after work processing the day phone calls, decorating consults, and parenting advice. Irene was a loving Nanny. She was a Nanny “Cheerleader” and celebrated each of her grandchildren’s own individuality and successes. The older grandchildren were happy to receive her rendition of “Oh The Places You Will Go” by Dr Seuss with her personalized spin on this book just for them upon graduating from High School.
Besides her husband and Mother, she was survived by her daughters Kelly Underhill (Todd) of Quispamsis NB, Jackie Parks (Greig Trask) of Hampton NB and Stacey Parks (Thomas Higgins) of Halifax NS; her son, Jason (Brandi Barrieau) of Kingston NB; her sisters, Brenda Allison (Frank) of Derby NB, Betty Morrison of Miramichi and Patti Morrison of Miramichi; her brothers, Gerald Morrison (Sheila) of Edmonton AB, David Morrison (Barb) of Miramichi and Terry Morrison (Elaine) of Bartibog NB; her grandchildren, Austen & Olivia Underhill, Luke & Logan Parks, Sean-Thomas Higgins and Victoria & Gregory Pitre and Jeremy & Gabrielle Trask her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father and sister Kathy Lewis.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care unit at the Miramichi Hospital, and the staff of the EMP program for the excellent care given to Irene.
