Irene Ann Sanipass
Irene Ann Sanipass 72, of Elsipogtog passed away
at the Stella Maris Hospital in Ste-Anne-de-Kent on Tuesday, November
10, 2020. Born in Summerside, PEI she was the daughter of
the late Matthew Peters and late Ann Marie (Labobe) Peters.
Irene was a spiritual leader, Mi’kmaq Elder with the
Indigenous Women of Wabanaki Territory and a member of the Ladies
Auxiliary Richibucto Legion Branch

Irene will be sadly missed by her loving husband
of 31 years, Joseph John Sanipass; two daughters, Patsy Gavin (Danny)
Paula Marie Clory both of Lennox Island, PEI; three sons, Lenny Thomas
(Jamie) of Kelvin Grove, PEI, Randy Thomas, Joseph Thomas (Rhonda)
both of Lennox Island, PEI; Jeff, Mike and Brandi who were just like
her own children; thirty-four grandchildren, Denise, Davina, Brett,
Brandon, Molly, Skye, Starr, Jordan, Justin, Xavier, Daniel, Sierra,
Paul, Mackenzie, Alicia, (late) Jenna, Andrew, Carson, Alicia, TJ,
Mark, Anthony, Jeremiah, Ashley, Moin, Trish, Frances, Megan, Coulton,
Christal, Cheyenne, Katrina, Chad, late Dereka and many great
grandchildren. The family would also like to recognize
Irene’s first husband Joe Thomas
(Marlene).
She is also survived by three brothers, John
Peters, Eugene Peters (Sandra), Joseph Peters all of Lennox Island,
PEI; Late Emmett Peters and sister-in-law, Judy Peters of Afton, NS
and many nieces and nephews.
Irene’s first visitation will be held
at her home at 467 Main Street, Elsipogtog, NB beginning on Friday at
4:00 pm until Sunday at noon. Her second visitation will be
held at 87 Oyster Trail Road, Lennox Island on Sunday beginning at
4:00 pm until Tuesday morning at 10:30 am
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday,
November 17, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic
Church, Lennox Island First Nation. Due to Covid 19 restrictions,
seating at the church will be for immediate family only.
Additional limited seating will be available in the John J.
Sark Memorial School, under Covid 19 protocol. Interment
will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
