Ingrid Wilma Fraser (Thier) – was born on August 4, 1939, in rural Lithuania. After a wartime journey through Poland to Germany, Ingrid moved to Canada with her parents and three sisters when she was nine years old. Her family first lived in Tavistock, and then Stratford, where she lived most of her life. Ingrid moved to Ritz Lutheran Villa in Mitchell in January of this year, where she died two weeks shy of her 81st birthday. She is survived by her husband Kelvin Fraser, her children Tiffani Fraser (Dominic Bradford) and Andrea Fraser (Andy Priestman), grandchildren Molly, Chloe, Finegand and Aramintha, and her younger sister, Esther Jacques. She is predeceased by her parents Erna and Karl Thier, mother-in-law Elaine Doyle, and older sisters Irene Gilliard and Ella Cates.
Ingrid had a rich, busy life that included family, a business career, volunteer and church activities, traveling and an active social schedule. Ingrid loved to have her family and friends around her and adored her grandchildren immensely, always wishing that they lived closer. Chloe, Molly, Fin and Minty will miss her greatly.
Ingrid went to business school in Kitchener in her 20s, and worked as a bookkeeper at several firms in Stratford before becoming a business owner in 1977. She and Kel owned and operated Fraser Paving for over 20 years and in retirement, she volunteered for a number of organizations including Meals on Wheels, The Canadian Cancer Society and Zion Lutheran Church. She organized the monthly ‘friendship meal’ at Zion of which she was very proud. She was someone who loved to help and was always willing to pitch in for any cause or event. Notably, she enjoyed helping plan her daughters’ weddings by planting a beautiful garden and sewing gift bags. She was not shy about her aversion to baking and said she had enough friends and family who would deliver when asked. (Her children were always grateful for these deliveries as well!).
Many will remember her summer backyard bbqs, impromptu shopping trips, coffee shop visits (for hot tea and a scone), and trips to warmer climates. She always had the perfect outfit for every occasion, including matching shoes. She loved the hot summer sun, flowers and tomatoes in her garden, white sheets on the clothesline, and in her later years, adored Maisy, her playful lapdog that brought her so much joy. Ingrid became increasingly ill over the last decade, with life becoming more difficult to enjoy as she once had, both mentally and physically. Our family is very grateful for the endless love and support her close friends and the wonderful staff at the Ritz gave her and us through these difficult years.
A celebration of Ingrid’s life will be planned at a future date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Ritz Lutheran Villa or Zion Lutheran Church through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
