Howard Gilmour
Gilmour Howard (Howie) On Saturday November 21, 2020. Devoted husband of the late Norma Lifshitz for sixty-six years. Dear father and father-in-law of Hal Gilmour and Leena Tomi, David and Sandra Gilmour, Allan Gilmour and Elyse Gasco. Devoted brother and brother-in-law of Suzanne and the late Bill Herscovitch. Cherished grandfather of Kira and Maya; Daniel and Jesse.
Beloved brother-in-law of Anne and Max Haltrecht, Edith and the late Hyman (Buddy) Lifshitz, the late Lilly and the late Sam Toulch, the late Dora and the late Harry Panoff and the late Murray Nixon.
He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, dear friends and colleagues.
Howard was born on February 14, 1925. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in 1946 and as a Chartered Accountant with Honours in 1949. In 1985 he was awarded a Fellowship by the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec for distinguished service to his profession.
Howard was instrumental, as a former managing partner, in developing his accounting firm, Richter (RUV), into one of the largest independent firms in Montreal and served on the Executive Committee of his firm’s International Association.
Professionally, Howie served as a Director of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec and as a member of the Education Committee, the Public Relations Committee and the Fee Mediation Committee. In addition, he served on the Auditing Standards Committee and acted as Chairman of the Management Consultants Committee of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Within the community, Howie served as President of Caldwell Residences (low income housing for senior citizens), as President of his Golf Course, member of the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Services, Israel Cancer Research Foundation, Canadian Jewish Congress and Vice-Chairman of Centraide. He also served as President of Maimonides Hospital Geriatric Centre, as a Trustee of the YM-YWHA and as a Board Member and Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Montreal General Hospital.
