It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert Leroy Nelson, 91, of Bridgewater, and formerly of Rhodes Corner, announce his passing on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Earl and Mabel (Nelson) Conrad
Herbert began his working life at the age of fourteen with Acadia Gas, he then went on to work for forty-five years with Atlantic Bridge in Lunenburg as a machinist. The last five of which were as a supervisor with their sister company, RPS Composites in Mahone Bay, from where he retired. Not one to stay idle, Herbert continued to work driving cars for many of the car dealerships in Bridgewater, up until the age of eighty-eight. He loved to spend time outdoors, hunting or camping at Lake Mush a Mush. He also enjoyed the companionship of his fellow Tim’s friends, at the Tim Horton’s in the Bridgewater Mall.
Herbert is survived by his daughters; Bonnie (Alan) Robar, Upper LaHave; Brenda (Marty Ponz) Nelson, Mission, B.C., son, Michael (Tina), Barrs Corner; grandchildren, Julie and Jeff Fillmore, Shane and Kayla Langille, Cheyenne Nelson; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Colby and Josie Fillmore, Kaisen Stoodley.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marina and his sister Marjorie Abbott.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy # 3, Lunenburg. A graveside service for family will be held at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
